Welcome! I’m happy you’ve stopped by. I’m Elaine and this is the spot where I share how my life and my creations in the kitchen connect. I’m lucky to live in the Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island where we have a mild climate, an abundance of farm-fresh produce, artisanal cheese, bread and wine and a wide variety of seafood all at our doorstep. I grow a lot of my own vegetables and avoid store-bought foods whenever I can.
Why this site?
It began as just a convenient spot to keep some of my favourite recipes as I gradually work on moving them from recipe books, recipe cards, and little slips of paper stuffed into my cupboard into a digital format. Since then it has expanded considerably and I try to focus on sharing recipes that use local and seasonal foods.
It’s relaxing. My kitchen is my haven from the rest of the world. I have to be in the moment here, focusing only on what my hands are creating. I can let go of my “to do” list and its accompanying anxieties. I learned a few years ago that life can take changes in direction in an instant. I’m learning to immerse myself and relish in the simple joys of everyday life, not worrying about what the future may hold. The greatest reward of creating in the kitchen is being able to gather with friends and family around the table to share my offerings.
Please take a moment to follow me on Pinterest, on Facebook, on twitter and on Instagram. Never miss a post by subscribing to my new blog here. I love to receive comments too.
